More usable power, far less weight.

Lithium Battery Systems in Bendigo

Lithium is the single biggest upgrade most vans can make. A lithium battery gives you far more usable capacity than the same nominal size in AGM, at roughly half the weight, and it doesn't mind being drawn down hard night after night.

The catch is that a lithium battery is not a drop-in swap for most setups. Your charging sources — vehicle alternator, solar regulator, mains charger — all need to be set to a lithium profile, and the wiring and fusing need to suit the much higher currents lithium is happy to deliver. We do the whole system, not just the battery.

What's Involved

How we approach the job

An honest assessment first

Lithium isn't automatically the right answer for everyone. If your existing setup suits how you travel, we'll say so. If the gain is real, we'll show you where it comes from.

Complete charging reconfiguration

Solar regulator, DC-DC charger and mains charger all reprogrammed to the correct lithium profile. This is the step most commonly skipped, and it's the one that determines whether the battery lasts.

Wiring and fusing rated to the load

Lithium will happily deliver current that undersized cable and old fusing were never intended for. We upgrade the cable runs, terminals and protection to match.

Battery management and low-temperature protection

We fit batteries with proper BMS protection and set them up so cold-weather charging is handled correctly — worth having in a Central Victorian winter.

Inverters and 240V where you want it

If you want to run 240V appliances, lithium is what makes that practical. We'll size the inverter to what you actually intend to run and wire it in safely.

Accurate monitoring

Voltage tells you very little on a lithium battery — the discharge curve is too flat. A shunt-based monitor is essentially mandatory, and we'll fit and configure one.

Common Questions

Lithium Batteries — your questions answered

Can I just swap my AGM battery for a lithium one?

Almost never, safely. The battery will physically fit, but your charging sources will still be running an AGM profile, and your existing wiring and fusing may not suit lithium's current capability. Doing it properly means reconfiguring the charging and checking the system around it.

How much more usable capacity does lithium give me?

A lead-acid or AGM battery is generally only comfortable being drawn down about half way, whereas lithium can be used far deeper without harm. In practice that means a lithium battery of the same nominal size gives you substantially more genuinely usable power, at around half the weight.

Is lithium worth it for weekend trips?

Sometimes, but not always. If you're mostly on powered sites for a couple of nights, a well-sorted AGM setup may be fine. Lithium earns its money when you spend real time off-grid or you're weight-limited. We'll give you a straight answer for your situation.

Do lithium batteries work in cold weather?

Yes, with the right protection. Lithium shouldn't be charged below freezing without provision for it, so we fit batteries with appropriate BMS protection and configure the system so it's handled automatically.

Can you upgrade my existing system rather than replacing it?

Usually. Plenty of vans have solar and wiring worth keeping, and the upgrade is the battery, the charging profiles and the protection. We'll work out what's worth carrying over.
